Bhubaneswar: Even as COVID-19 cases are exploding in Odisha, the State government has allowed restaurants and bars to resume operations with certain restrictions, in order to help the business establishments do away with a financially unviable situation.

A government notice issued to all Hotel & Bar Associations mentioned that restaurants and bars across the State are allowed to open for dining, in line with Odisha's government's Unlock-4 directive, subject to strict adherence to the Guidelines/ SOP on preventive measures in restaurants to contain the spread of COVID-19 issued by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

In case an area is declared as a containment zone, the local authorities shall take a decision on the operations of restaurants and bars, until containment is lifted.

While basic preventive measures are mandatory, other rules related to restaurant timings and seating capacity is yet to be revealed.

In the Unlock-4 guidelines, the State government had mentioned that activities that are not specifically prohibited/ regulated/ restricted are allowed subject to adherence to safety and health protocols and SOPs issued by concerned authorities.

The letter has also requested Special Relief Commissioner, Director General of Police, Principal Secretary, Excise Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Tourism, Twin City Police Commissioner, all Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and SPs to instruct respective field staff to allow restaurants and bars to open and operate for dining, subject to adherence to prescribed SOPs.
