Bhubaneswar: All students studying in Odia Medium schools across Odisha who were in Standard IX last year will be eligible to appear this year’s matriculation examination scheduled to be held in May.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday issued a notification making it clear that the Class IX students of 2019-20 academic session are eligible to appear in the 2021 high school certificate (HSC) examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha.

This will be applicable for all students studying in the Odia medium schools, the notification read.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the educational institutions across Odisha were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation since March 2020. Hence, the annual Class IX examination could not be held due to the unprecedented circumstances arising out of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Later, schools across the State had reopened in January 2021 to help students to prepare for class X and XII examinations. The schools had reopened with strict compliance of COVID-19 protocols.

However, the fresh decision has been taken in view of students who were in stress. Special classes will be conducted at school-levels to clear the doubts of the students.

Apart from class IX students, the class XI students (2019-20 session) are also eligible to  appear in the Plus II examination to be conducted by the CHSE in May this year.
