Cuttack: As many as 90 school students fell sick reportedly after returning from a picnic in Khuntuni area of Athagarh in Cuttack on Thursday. Around 20 of them and a teacher of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir(SSVM) were admitted to Madhapur and Athagarh hospitals.

As per reports, 145 students of SSVM had gone for a picnic where they consumed contaminated food following which health condition of some students deteriorated, informed a doctor.

Sources said there were around 70 other students of Khuntuni area who also fell sick and were admitted to Khuntuni Health Centre.

Later, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain visited the hospital and informed that health condition of two students was critical. He has assured that State government will provide all the medical facilities required for their treatment.

"It seems the students fell ill after eating fast food. Two of them are critical and we are making all necessary arrangements for their treatment," said the Minister.

In another incident, six inmates of a girls' hostel of Udaynath College in Adaspur area of Cuttack fell ill reportedly due to the effect of mosquito repellent. Subsequently, five of them were admitted to Adaspur hospital while another was admitted to SCB Medical College & Hospital in critical condition.
