Gajapati: At a time when missing and subsequent deaths of children have triggered a debate on the alleged degrading law and order situation in Odisha, yet another eight-year-old boy has gone missing while he was playing near his house at Kumuti Sahi under Kashinagar NAC of Gajapati district since Wednesday evening.

A complaint about the missing of the child has been lodged at the Kashinagar police station yesterday.

As per the complaint, the boy identified as Jami Hardhik was playing with his friends in the parking area of a shopping complex, some 500 metres away from his house when two youths on motorbike came to him and asked his father's whereabouts.

"His (Hardhik) friends told that he replied that I was in factory. On this, they asked Hardhik to show them the factory and took him on their motorcycle. Though his friends grew suspicious and tried to chase the vehicle, they managed to flee the spot," alleged the minor boy's father, Jami Gopi.

They immediately informed Hardhik's family members following which a frantic search was carried out to find his whereabouts but in vain. Later, Hardhik's father lodged a complaint at the police station.

Meanwhile, locals claim that Hardhik's father is a business man and the adduction might be an outcome of business rivalry, added reports.

Based on the complaint, police rushed to Kumuti Sahi and have launched a search operation to trace the minor boy. Further investigation into the case is underway.

In a related development, the dead body of a three-year-old boy who had gone missing since Wednesday, was recovered from the open well near his house at Khankira village under Nihal Prasad police limits in Dhenkanal district early morning today.
