Dhenkanal: Three persons including a poacher have been arrested by the forest department officials in Dhenkanal district on Sunday. Senior officials informed that five deer hides, two unlicensed guns have also been recovered from their possession.

As per reports, all the three persons were arrested following a raid at Pradhantangar village under Kapilash forest range.

Sources said that all the three accused were trying to sell the deer hides when the raid was conducted. They have been produced before court today, a senior forest department official said.

It is alleged that there has been a steep increase in the poaching of wild animals on account of the COVID-19 induced lockdown in different forest areas in Odisha.

Apart from poaching, the enforcing agencies have also claimed breakthrough in putting a check on the smuggling of wild animals and seizures of hides from different parts of the State at regular intervals.
