Boudh: At least four passengers were seriously injured after the bus they were travelling in overturned on National Highway-57 near Khuntabandha in the district in the wee hours of Monday.

The identities of the injured passengers are yet to be ascertained and they are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Sources said, the ill-fated bus- Moonlight was on its way from Bhawanipatna to Bhubaneswar with as many as 50 passengers on board when the mishap occurred.

As the bus was nearing Khuntabandha locality, the driver lost control over the vehicle due to some technical reasons and the bus turned turtle after hitting an electric pole.

Hearing the agonising cries of the passengers, some local residents rushed to the spot and started rescue operations immediately.

All the passengers were taken out of the overturned vehicle. Police investigation is also underway into the incident.

Earlier on January 14, around 25 passengers had escaped an accident narrowly after a bus in which they were travelling overturned near Alutuma bridge in Dhenkanal district. Only one person had sustained injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, which was heading towards Balasore from Rourkela, lost control while trying to avert a head-on collision with a truck coming from opposite direction. The bus skidded off the road and overturned.
