Berhampur: The Berhampur Sadar Police detained three minor boys on Wednesday for allegedly gang-raping a 10-year-old girl here in Ganjam district two days back.

The accused trio is being interrogated by the police and will be forwarded to juvenile court later in the day.

As per reports, the minor girl's parents are daily wage worker and had gone to Berhampur on the fateful day.

Taking advantage of her parents' absence, the three boys of her locality entered the house and gang-raped the girl. They later fled the spot after committing the crime.

Subsequently, when her parents returned home in the evening, the rape survivor narrated the ordeal to them following which a complaint was lodged with the local police.

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Berhampur Sadar, Jayant Kumar Mohapatra said that the three accused and the minor girl will be sent for medical examination. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Earlier on February 2, two brothers were arrested by the Mahakalapada police for allegedly abducting a 16-year-old minor girl and gang-raping her for five days in a house in Derabish block of Kendrapara district.

The girl, a Plus Two Arts student in a college in Mahakalapada, was abducted on January 29 by the brother duo. Following an FIR by her mother the next day, police started investigation and arrested the brothers from their hideout in Derabish.
