Nuapada: The district, which had registered the maximum daily spike in the covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, has become a major cause of concern as 29 more tested positive for the virus today.

More worrisome is that the 29 positive people are from one village under Sinapli block in the district.

As many as 56 swab samples were collected today out of which 29 came out positive, Sinapali Block Development Officer (BDO) said.

Following the sudden surge in the cases, the local sarpanch has announced the closure of the weekly market to be held tomorrow.

It is suspected that the new infection might have come from the neighbouring Chhattisgarh which shares border with the district.

Notably, Chhattisgarh has turned a high-risk State with a significant surge in the daily covid-19 cases.

Nuapada, which had reported four positive cases on Tuesday, jumped to 27 in the last 24 hours.

Odisha continued to record more than 100 fresh cases in the last 6 days with the positives touching 170 in the last 24 hours.

Of the 170 positives reported on Wednesday, 99 were detected in quarantine centres while the rest 71 were local transmission cases.
