Cuttack: As many as 13 more persons of a private college in Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) area have tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, 12 students of the same college had tested positive. Following the incident, contact tracing of the infected students was carried out as per the protocols issued by the Health department and 71 others underwent rapid antigen tests. Later, test reports of 13 more persons came out to be positive. With this a total of 25 persons of the college have tested Covid positive so far.

"In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 from the students, the CMC authorities have reportedly lodged the students under quarantine at the college hostel," stated CMC Health official Satyabrata Mohapatra.

The college and its hostel have been shut down for 10 days from Wednesday as a precautionary measure against the viral infection.

Meanwhile, two employees of TATA Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) in Berhampur were tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday.

Both of them are asymptomatic and they are being treated at a hospital in Bhubaneswar. Following detection of the virus, the office of TPSODL has been sanitised.

In view of the upcoming religious festivals like Maa Taratarini Yatra, Danda Nacha, Maa Budhi Thakurani Jatra etc, the district administration has directed non-local devotees not to take part in all these festivals this year.
