New Delhi: Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, an IIT alumnus from Odisha, Piyush Agrawal has successfully designed a new mask claiming it to be better in functionality with protection against the novel-Coronavirus and pollutants in the air.

Piyush who has named the designer mask “Moksha” says that it a next generation user friendly mask. "I designed this mask after observing the difficulties faced by wearers in breathing, which can lead to respiratory diseases like hypoxia due to an increase in the level of Carbon dioxide within the body," says Piyush.

The new mask operates with a battery using two filters on each side which aids in cleaning air to enter the respiratory system using the N95 filter and simultaneously releasing the trapped air from within the mask to the environment.

The battery used for the mask is designed to control the level of power depending on the level of activity of the wearer. Battery operation with three levels, low, medium and high that can be adjusted by the mask user to continue activities like Yoga, exercise and walking without facing any discomfort.

The invention also is environment friendly since the only wastage that occurs is the N95 filter, which is easy to replace every other day.

According to Piyush, the samples of the mask have been sent for approval to institutions like National Physical Laboratory, AIIMS and Maulana Azaad Medical College.

National Physical Laboratory under Central Industry of Scientific Research (CISR) would further be checking the physiological characteristics of the mask which would help in obtaining the approval required for its large scale production, he said.
