New Delhi: An Odia doctor will perform the bypass surgery on the President Ram Nath Kovind today at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Doctor Akshya Kumar Bisoyi, a leading surgeon has been given the task of the bypass procedure on the President, reports said.

Kovind had been admitted to Indian Army’s Research and Referral hospital on March 26 after he complained of heart discomfort.

Post-investigations, doctors had referred him to AIIMS for a bypass surgery.

A team of experts from the AIIMS has advised him to undergo a bypass procedure. After routine medical check-ups, doctors have decided to perform the operation today.

On March 27, The Rashtrapati Bhawan through a tweet had stated "The President has been under observation after a routine medical check-up. He thanks all who enquired about his health and wished him well."
