Now, Odisha’s Most Popular News Channel OTV On ‘Koo’

Bhubaneswar: In the social media horizon, a 'Sun' rises on the Indian shores.

With a yellow background and bird, compared to ‘Made In America’ Twitter’s Blue background and white bird, this very ‘Made In India’ micro blogging version - Koo - has winged to new heights recently. The download of this desi-twitter application has crossed the one-million mark.

In February 2021, the Koo app traction has grown by leaps and bounds. The forward march of this desi-twitter has been so overwhelming that ‘#Kooapp’ has started trending on Twitter.

In the backdrop of rising uneasiness between twitter and Union government over the trending hashtag “farmer genocide”, and the government ordering twitter to remove the same, many influential ministers and department in the Centre like Piyush Goyal, and the Ministry of IT, MyGov, Digital India, India Post, NIC, NIELIT, SAMEER, Common Services Center, UMANG app, Digi Locker, NIXI, STPI, CDAC, and CMET, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anil Kumble, and other famous personalities and departments have joined the desi micro blogging platform –Koo.

Odisha’s popular and Numero Uno news channel will also be now available on the Koo platform, @otvnews, for the English digital platform, while viewers can log in @OtvKhabar and @OdishaReporter for the two Odia language portals-- OTV Khabar and Odisha Reporter, respectively. It will be also the first news channel in Odisha to available on Koo – the app that won the ‘Atmanirbhar Innovation App Challenge’ in August last year.

WHAT IS KOO?

Koo was developed by Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka in March 2020. The app is meant for people to express thoughts, opinions, and strike a discussion on trending topics – almost akin to Twitter.

Like twitter, this app lets you follow the trends and users including celebrities and people of prominence.

THE NICHE

The novelty about the app is it is available in multiple Indian languages like Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Oriya, and Assamese. The versatile app gives the users a better platform to express themselves in the language of their choice.

ABOUT THE APP

It has five sections: Home, Trending Hashtags, Search, Messages, and Notifications.

While the top left corner includes the Profile section for the user to manage his/her account, the top right corner has a section to view trending Koos in the past 24 hours. In addition, there is a ‘Koo’ option called ‘Koo your opinion’ in the bottom right corner of the homepage for the users to jot down their opinion.
