Berhampur/Bhubaneswar: While the Berhampur police has registered a land grab case against Congress leader and former Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena, the Bhubaneswar commissionerate police has begun investigation into the stay of Jena with two dacoits in the official quarters of Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

Talking to OTV on Wednesday, Berhampur SP Sarthak Sarangi said the Town Police, on the basis of a complaint, has registered a land grab case against Jena and four others in connection with forcible purchase of a piece of land in Gandhi Nagar area of the city.

The four others against whom the case has been lodged are Arakhita Jena (father of Ramesh Jena), corporator R Murali Mohan and two builders Buna Sahu and Babuli Sahani.

“Police has arrested Murali and Buna and forwarded to the court while efforts are on to nab Babuli who has absconded,” he added.

Sarangi also informed that the police had got some vital information on the business and criminal activities of Jena during his custodial interrogation.

“This apart, we are investigating his involvement in possible tender fixing in Berhampur Municipal Corporation (CMC) in 2015-16 since we suspect the complicity of Jena in this matter,” he said.

Referring to the seizure of a Lexus car owned by Jena from Vizag, the SP said a special team of police had left for Vizag to collect more information about Jena’s gutkha business.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar commissionerate police has begun investigation into the stay of Jena and his two associates—Santosh Behera and Manoranjan Khatei—against whom several dacoity cases are pending, in the official quarters of Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

After the arrest of these two dacoits, police had seized two identity cards issued to them by a karate school in the city in 2015 which mentioned Bahinipati's official quarters as their address.

Talking to the media, police commissioner YB Khurania said the criminal activities of the two arrested dacoits are part of the investigation into Jena’s case.
