Bhubaneswar: Senior journalist and resident editor of the Business Standard (Odisha edition), Dillip Satpathy, passed away at the age of 56 in Bhubaneswar late Sunday night after suffering a cardiac arrest.

As per reports, Satpathy fell sick yesterday evening and was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors declared him dead. He had survived cancers years back.

The senior journalist had worked for several media outlets and was a panelist for OTV live news and debates very often. A pall of gloom has descended in the media fraternity following the sudden demise of the senior journalist.

“The untimely demise of Satpathy has shocked the entire media fraternity. His demise is a great loss to journalism in Odisha. The State has lost a great political and financial expert,” said a senior journalist.

“Though he was ill for years, his illness had never weakened him. Satpathy was a great journalist and was well known for his neutral views,” said another senior journalist.

Eminent personalities including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP national vice president Baijayant Jay Panda and Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik have condoled the demise of Satpathy.

Minister Ashok Panda said, "He was with the Doordarshan's new division and we were associated and worked together. He was a very nice and simple person."

Several journalists in Odisha also condoled the death of demise of Satpathy.

"It is a personal loss as he was like a brother to me. I was in contact with him throughout. Dilip Satpathy was a kind of journalist who followed the ethics in true spirit," said senior journalist Rajaram Satpathy.
