Koraput: Absence of motorable roads in remote pockets of the State continue to haunt people depriving them of timely healthcare services. Corroborating this is an incident reported from Laxmipur Kutukajhola village in the district where an expectant mother was carried on cot by family and relatives for 3 kms to the hospital on Wednesday.

When the woman complained of labour pain, her family member immediately called up 102 ambulance services. However, medical services could not be availed as the vehicle failed to reach them due to pathetic condition of the village road.

With no other option left, the family members along with some villagers carried her on a cot to Laxmipur Community Health Centre located some 3 kms away from their house.

Despite similar cases cropping up time and again in the district, no comments could be obtained from the medical authorities.

In another incident of medical negligence, a pregnant woman from Netua village under Derabish block in Kendrapara delivered a baby on road after she was allegedly sent back by the doctor citing that there is still time for delivery. While returning home along with her husband and Asha worker, she started to have labour pain again and was forced to give birth on the roadside.
