Bhubaneswar: After dampening numerous occasions of festivities in 2020, the coronavirus pandemic will now play spoilsport on the New Year's merrymaking as restrictions have been imposed on Zero Night celebrations on the night of December 31.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has clarified that the current COVID-19 guidelines don't allow any celebration on New Year's eve.

City hotels, clubs, and pubs, who had been leaving no stone unturned to provide revelers a chance to enjoy the night amid full of entertainment, may witness a deserted look this year due to the restrictions on the Zero Night celebration.

"December 31st celebration is not allowed as of now. The COVID-19 guidelines for December doesn't allow any type of large gathering, social or political, apart from marriages and other rituals with a limited gathering," informed BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury.

Meanwhile, the BMC has come up with a special provision for Christmas celebrations amid the pandemic.

The BMC commissioner today informed that people can celebrate Christmas this year by strictly adhering to social distancing norms.
