No More 'Guard of Honour' For CM, Ministers In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to discontinue the colonial-era practice of according 'Guard of Honour' to Chief Minister, Ministers and other government officials.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday abolished the practice, but on special occasions like Republic Day, Independence Day and Utkal Dibasa, the invited chief guest will be accorded with Guard of Honour.

However, the directive will not be applied to President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Governor, Lokayukta, Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court and High Court as they will continue to receive the Guard of Honour, said a statement from Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Besides, freedom fighter will now be addressed as 'Manyabar' (Honourable), the statement added.
