Cuttack: If there is no fear and respect for traffic laws, then it is certainly not a healthy sign. Barely a few hours after Odisha DGP BK Sharma directed to arrest drunker driving offenders, Chauliaganj police arrested a man from near Nuabazar area in Cuttack last night on charges of violating various traffic rules including riding a bike under the influence of alcohol.

This is reportedly the first case in which a drunk driver has been arrested and sent to court.

According to sources, police intercepted the biker Rakesh Panda of Matgajpur in Jagatsinghapur district during vehicle checking at Nuabazar and arrested him after a breath analyser test report revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol measuring 45 mg of 100 mg breath. Police have also seized his two-wheeler.

Sources said Panda did not even possess a driving licence following which he was prosecuted under section 185/202 of Motor Vehicles Act.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police has warned the commuters making it clear that driving after taking alcohol will not be tolerated.
