Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi said that permission will not be granted to any puja committee to construct idols of Goddess Durga more than four feet high in the puja Mandap.

The decision was taken in pursuance of an Orissa High Court order, issued on Wednesday, after many puja committees in Cuttack filed petitions against the government decision to restrict the height of idols to four feet. However Sarangi made it clear that those who are against the order could seek justice in the High Court. The final decision is subject to any further modification by the High Court, he said.

“I should not say more about the issue as it is under the jurisdiction of the honourable High Court. As per the feedback I have received from different sources, most people understand the situation. They are happy with the state government’s decision of not allowing idols of Goddess Durga to be more than four feet,” he said.

Sarangi urged people to be responsible while observing the 10-day festivities. “Everybody understands the poor conditions of the market due to Covid-19 situation. They want to keep the puja a low key affair this year. We can celebrate puja in a grand way next year when the situation improves,” he added.
