Cuttack: In a major development, the Cuttack district administration has decided not to organise the historic maritime festival, Bali Yatra this year.

The decision of not holding the festival has been taken by the administration in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, informed Collector Bhabani Shankar Chaini.

"In this Covid-19 situation, we will not allow any kind of congregation. As Bali Yatra attract footfalls of large number of people, I think the festival will not be possible this year," Chaini said.

"We will furnish the details report to the State government. After the Covid-19 guidelines for the month of November comes into force, a formal decision will be taken in this regard in the administrative level,"  Chaini added.

The district Collector further informed that the Bada Osha (fasting festival) at Dhabaleswar temple will also not be organised this year due to the pandemic situation.

"Permission will not be granted to any kind of festival in which there are chances of congregation of large number of people. In this context, we think that it is not possible to hold the Bada Osha at Dhabaleswar temple this year," Chaini added.
