Balasore: In a new twist to the alleged rape and murder of the 13-year-old girl in Nilagiri, a Childline team on Saturday said that the victim was engaged at the brick kiln as a child labourer.

During their visit, the delegates discussed about the incident with the victim’s family members after conducting an on-the-spot investigation at the brick kiln.

“Child labour crisis is still rampant in the society. We will discuss the issue with the administration. Together, we will find a way to eradicate the social evil,” said a member of the Childline.

According to the family of the deceased, she had gone out of her house to meet her parents, who work at the brick kiln in the nearby locality on November 30 morning when the accused duo forcibly took her to an unknown place and allegedly raped her. The miscreants had also beaten her severely before forcing her to consume poison.

The girl then returned home in a critical condition, following which her family members rushed her to the Nilagiri Community Health Centre. She was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital as her condition deteriorated. However, she breathed her last while undergoing treatment.

The police have launched a hunt to nab the accused after parents of the deceased lodged a complaint in this regard. As many as three persons including the brick kiln owner have been detained in this connection.
