Cuttack: Intense prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC will be remain in force during the observance of night curfew order in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, said Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi on Saturday.

The night curfew restrictions will stay in effect from 9 pm to 5 am every day until further orders, read an official order of the State government.

All the movement of individuals and others engaged in non-essential or emergency services will be completely restricted during the observance of the night curfew. The violators will be taken to task under various sections including Odisha Urban Police Act and others, said a senior police official.

While talking to reporters, Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said that around 10 platoons of police force will be deployed for strict enforcement of the night curfew restrictions in Cuttack.

“We have made elaborate arrangements for strict implementation of night curfew restrictions in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. As per special arrangements, 23 checkpoints will be in place in different parts of the city. Patrolling in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be intensified,” said Priyadarshi.

The Police Commissioner appealed the residents of Twin City to cooperate Commissionerate Police and local administration in the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.

“Strict observance of Covid appropriate behavior is the key to keep the virus at bay. However, due to steep rise in cases, the State government has decided to enforce night curfew restrictions in all urban areas across the State. We appeal people in the Twin City to follow the guidelines and do not violate the night curfew restrictions as strict action will be taken against the violators,” said Priyadarshi.

Senior Commissionerate Police officials said that the people engaged in emergency services should carry a valid identity card during the night curfew restrictions.
