Newly-Wed Woman Dies During Treatment In Odisha, Family Alleges Dowry Torture

Balasore: A newly-married woman died under suspicious circumstances at Anandapur village under Simulia police limits in Balasore district. The deceased has been identified as Lizasmita Lenka.

The deceased, who hailed from Ramchandrapur, had tied nuptial knot with one Sushant Lenka of Anandapur in the month of July. Like any other Indian marriage, Lizasmita's parents had given cash and other household articles to the groom’s family as dowry.

Deceased Lizasmita's family members alleged her husband and in-laws were torturing her for dowry and recently demand Rs 80,000.

According to reports, Lizasmita fell sick on Saturday following which in-laws admitted her to Simulia community health centre. As Lizasmita's condition deteriorated, she was then shifted to Bhadrak hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased lodged a police complaint in this regard. A case has been registered while further investigation in this connection is on, police said.
