Newly-married woman found dead in Jharsuguda; dowry killing alleged

Jharsuguda: A newly married woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her rented house at Jhanda Chhak under Jharusuguda Police limits today.

According to sources, the deceased, identified as Adiyta Aishwarya, daughter of Sidharth Sahoo of Bargarh's Mohantypada was married to Aditya Sahoo of Rourkela three months ago. However, Aishwarya's family alleged that she was being tortured over dowry by her husband and in-laws and was killed for the same.

Aishwarya's family also filed a written complaint against her in-laws and demanded strict action.

"Aishwarya was being tortured by her in-laws after her marriage and was killed by them," said Tanmaya Sahoo, the deceased's uncle. We demand a detailed investigation and strict action against the culprits, he added.

"Family fights can't be termed as mental torture and the fight is always two-sided. We never made any dowry demands," said Aishwarya's husband Aditya.

Meanwhile, police have handed over the body to the family members after postmortem. Further investigation is on.
