Balasore: A newborn girl was found abandoned in Machhua forest under Mitrapur in Balasore district on Tuesday.

According to reports, a woman from a village nearby Machhua forest had gone to the jungle for agricultural works when she heard the baby’s wail. When she followed the cries, she found the baby lying in the forest and later brought her home, sources said.

The woman then handed over the baby to her sister-in-law after an assurance that she will take care of the child.

Later, the baby girl was admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where she is under observation. The baby weighs 1.4 kg and is stated to be completely healthy.

“My sister-in-law had gone to the forest and found the baby there. She informed the matter to me over phone as she knew I wanted a girl child. Later, I went to her house and took the newborn to the hospital,” informed the woman’s relative who has adopted the baby.
