Bolangir: Palpable tension prevailed in Patnagarh hospital premises here after a newborn boy was allegedly stolen by a woman from the hospital today. What's even more shocking is that the incident happened in broad daylight when other attendants and hospital staff were present.

As per sources, one Jayanti Tandi of Telenapalli village had given birth to a baby boy last Sunday. This morning, a woman came to hospital and identified herself as a relative of Jayanti. After a few moments, she held the baby and suddenly vanished from the spot.

Soon after the incident, Jayanti's family lodged a complaint with the police who rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation based on the allegations.

While the hospital authorities are clueless about the suspected woman, the family members have staged a road blockade demanding arrest of the culprit so that they could get their child back.

On March 23, 2017, one Gitanjali of Amlipani village under Jujumora block of Sambalpur district had given birth to a baby boy at about 12 noon in Sambalpur Sadar hospital. However, her newborn son was allegedly stolen away from the hospital on the same night.

Two days after that, two security guards were dismissed by the hospital authorities for negligence in duty.
