Bhubaneswar: COVID-19 continues to cast its shadow over celebrations as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday strictly prohibited Zero Night celebrations in the city on New Year’s eve.

In a fresh notification, the BMC said, “The Odisha government in its order issued on November 30 had explicitly prohibited large social gatherings to contain the spread of COVID-19. Keeping in view the approaching New Year Zero Night celebration will not be allowed in the city.”

Any kind of event or congregation including Zero Night celebration at hotels, clubs, convention halls, kalyan mandaps has been strictly prohibited, as per the latest clarification issued by the BMC.

The BMC officials said that large gatherings during Zero Night celebration in any other place across the city is also strictly prohibited.

The civic body has also requested people to celebrate New Year with their friends/ family and relatives at private houses/establishments with strict adherence of the COVID-19 norms and other guidelines issued by the Centre and State government.
