Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra on Wednesday held a discussion with chairman and CMD of NTPC, Gurdeep Singh on setting up a new unit of Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) in Talcher.

Speaking after the meeting, Mohapatra said, “A formal decision has been made in this regard. NTPC will hold a meeting with GRIDCO, Odisha Energy Department and other stakeholders by next Monday for a detailed discussion in this regard.”

Mohapatra said during the meeting the stakeholders will discuss about early execution of the proposed project, issues, and grievances of the local people agitating against the project and chalk out an action plan accordingly.

The State government will extend all help for speedy execution of the thermal power project, he said.

Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Centre to take steps for the early execution of the TTPS Stage-III project and address the concern related to the closure of the state's first thermal power generation project.

“I draw your immediate attention and request you to direct NTPC to address the concerns related to closure of TTPS and take steps for the early execution of TTPS Stage-III project. I assure you all support from the state government in this regard," Patnaik wrote in the letter on March 22.

Similarly, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had written to Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power RK Singh seeking his personal intervention for expediting Stage-III expansion of Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS).
