Bhubaneswar: Targeting the new Odisha Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy for his 'rocket speed' movement of files remark, BJP has questioned why the bureaucrat didn't do the same during his tenure as Home Secretary.

Slamming Tripathy's comment, BJP spokesperson, Golak Mohapatra said that due to tardy pace of the administration, Kunduli gang rape victim committed suicide and Pipili gang rape accused fled.

"If he is saying that file movement will be faster now, he means it was slower earlier. Why the previous Chief Secretary was not asked to do the same? What this government was doing in last 20 years?" questioned Mohapatra.

Stating that such a statement by Tripathy is only an attempt to mislead people, Mohapatra criticised the State government by questioning about investment proposals worth Rs 2 lakh crore which was received three years back.

Responding to Mohapatra, BJD MLA, Amar Satpathy, said, "Odisha govt is trying to expedite growth & attract more investors to the State, but those who are unhappy are criticising our push for fast-track file movement & decision-making."

Tripathy, a 1986-batch IAS officer, took charge as Chief Secretary on Monday from outgoing Aditya Prasad Padhi. After taking charge, Tripathy said he was hopeful that the decision-making process and file movement will be faster.
