Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Saturday announced to withdraw Covid19 lockdown and shutdown restrictions in the entire State for 12 days in two phases to allow smooth conduct of the annual NEET (UG) & JEE (Main) examinations.

The Special Relief Commissioner in a notification informed that there will be no lockdown and shutdown in force in the entire State from August 30 to September 7 and September 12 to 14 to facilitate free movement to the candidates and their guardian, examination personnel, representatives of service providers and logistics requirements connected with smooth conduct of JEE and NEET exams.

However, the regulations for observance of COVID-l9 protocols, such as social distancing, wearing of mask, no spitting in public place, etc. shall be strictly followed during the period, said the circular by the SRC.

The move comes side by side with the Centre's announcement of COVID-19 Unlock 4 guidelines to remain in force from September 1 to 30. The State governments/UTs have been asked not to enforce local lockdown (outside containment zones) without consulting the Union government.

Earlier on Friday, the State government had announced that there will be no shutdown or lockdown only in cities in Odisha where the JEE (Main) 2020 and NEET (UG) exam will be held.

Earlier, a lot of students, their escorts, examination personnel and other service providers had requested Odisha government to initiate special measures to facilitate free movement of Neet and JEE aspirants.
