Bhubaneswar: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday seized 700 kg of ganja (dry cannabis) from near Godipada toll gate on Bhubaneswar - Khordha road. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is stated to be around Rs 50 lakh.

Sources said the truck was illegally transporting the banned material from Andhra Pradesh to Balasore in Odisha when acting on a tip-off the officials conducted a raid and found ganja stuffed inside the coconut husk-laden vehicle.

The NCB has arrested one person in this connection while the truck was also seized. Further investigation is on.

In another incident, four suspected drug peddlers were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police for trying to smuggle 200 kg ganja into the state. The consignment was being carried in a truck from Odisha to Banda in Uttar Pradesh when it was intercepted by a joint team of STF and local police on Thursday evening.
