Nayagarh: A piece of cloth (leggings) belonging to a five-year-old girl, who was kidnapped and murdered, was retrieved from a pond at Jadupur village on Tuesday.

The cloth was retrieved after the personnel of the fire services department and ODRAF dried up the water of the pond. Later, it was handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT),  which is probing into the sensational murder case of the minor girl.

Yesterday, the State probe agency arrested one person in connection with the case. Briefing the media, SIT chief Arun Bothra today said that the killer had raped the girl after strangulating her to death.

Bothra said the accused had stuffed the body of the girl in a jute bag and hid it in a bush near the pond. He later took the girl’s leggings and threw it in the pond.
