Nayagarh: The Nayagarh Police claimed to have cracked the murder case of a woman in Sarankul area of the district with the arrest of four persons, including two contract killers on Sunday.

The four accused, whose identification are yet to be revealed by the police, will be court forwarded today while the woman's husband identified as Akhi Mohapatra and his paramour were arrested and court forwarded in connection with case around two weeks back. The number of arrests in the case has gone up to six.

The woman identified as Sasmita was found hanging at her house at Suar Sahi under Sarankul police limits in the district on January 29.

Akhi was allegedly having an extra marital affair with a woman of his locality due to which the husband and wife were not in cordial terms and often quarreled over the matter, informed the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Sarankul Police Station Bimal Mallick.

However, Akhi hatched a plan to eliminate Sasmita and hired two contract killers for Rs 2 lakh to kill her.

On the night of January 29, the two supari killers along with two of their associates reportedly entered Sasmita's house while she was alone and strangulated her to death. Later, they hanged her body from the ceiling fan to represent it as a suicide and fled the spot.

Although police initially suspected it to be a suicide case, post-mortem reports revealed that the woman was first strangulated and then hanged. Based on the autopsy reports, Sarankul Police initiated an investigation and arrested Akhi, who was the mastermind behind the murder and his paramour few days back.

During interrogation, Akhi admitted to have hired contract killers to execute the crime.

Police have also recovered Rs 20,000 from the supari killers and a motorcycle used in the crime. Further investigation in connection with the case is underway, the police said.
