Bhubaneswar: The 20th National level Handloom Expo-2021 kicked off in the Capital city on Wednesday. The fair inaugurated by Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Padmini Dian at IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-III will continue till February 17.

The expo will remain open from 11.30 AM to 9.30 PM daily. All precautionary measures have been taken to ensure Covid guidelines are strictly adhered to in the fair.

As many as 134 stalls have been set up at the exhibition, of which 84 stalls are meant for state participants and rest are from a number of other States including New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir.

The expo is being organised by the State Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department.

"I hope people will visit the mela in large numbers and strictly adhere to all the Covid-19 protocols. We are hoping the fair will reap more profit for us than last year," said Minister Dian while inaugurating the fair.

Last year, the expo had generated sales of around Rs 9.50 crore. However, this year traders are hopeful to do business of more than Rs 10 crore.

Many other dignitary including Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Ananta Jena, Handlooms Department Commissioner Subha Sarma, Director of Textiles and Handloom Jyoti Prakash Das, MD of Boyanika and officials graced the inauguration ceremony.
