Kendrapara: Demanding Rs 5 lakh compensation for the people injured in Namtara firing incident, members of Milita Nisa Nibarana Abhiyan staged protest here on Sunday.

The association said that people injured in the 2015 Namtara firing incident are now having a harrowing time and are yet to come to terms with life. Hence, the government should provide them a compensation of Rs 5.

Besides, the outfit also demanded Rs 10 lakh for the woman from whose body bullet is yet to be removed.

"It has been years since I was hit by a bullet. The bullet is still inside my body so I demand the government to either give me Rs 10 lakh or bear the operation expenses towards removing the bullet," said Sasmita Jena.

"We have staged dharna demanding Rs 5 lakh for the injured and Rs 10 lakh for Sasmita. If the government doesn't pay heed to our demand, we will intensify our protest in future," said Ramakant Mandal, secretary of Milita Nisa Nibarana Abhiyan.

The firing incident occurred during a liquor protest by women in 2015 at Namtara.
