Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident, the one-month old girl child who was branded with hot iron bangles at Kenduhuda village under Papadahandi block of the district on Tuesday, died at the district headquarters hospital on Thursday afternoon while undergoing treatment.

The baby, who was suffering from some ailment, was branded by hot iron bangles by a local quack in the name of treatment.

Soon after being branded, the baby’s health condition deteriorated and she was admitted to the district headquarters hospital.

The 34-day old female baby, the child of Laxmi Pujari under Papadhandi police limits, had multiple injury marks on her abdomen.

On February 22, another eight-month old infant boy, who was branded with hot iron by his father to cure his illness in Mahuvatta village under Raighar police limits, had died at the government-run hospital.

Similarly on January 25, a nine-day old baby branded with a hot iron rod by the village quack in the name of treatment at Gorama village under Jharigaon block died at the Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital.
