Nabarangpur: Family members of Gobardhan Bindhani, who was allegedly beaten to death in police custody in Nabarangpur, refused to accept his body demanding action against the accused.

Though the district administration sent Gobardhan's body in a hearse vehicle to the village after post mortem, the family members denied to accept the body for cremation alleging that efforts are being made to hush up the custodial death incident.

"When a post mortem is not supposed to be carried out after 6 pm, why Gobardhan's was done hurriedly after 8 pm at the hospital," a family member of the victim said.

Yesterday, hundreds of villagers of Panjaraguda and nearby areas gheroaed and ransacked property inside the Kodinga police station accusing the cops of killing Gobardhan.

As per the allegations, Kodinga police picked up Gobardhan and one Kamlu Harijan of Badapanjuria village from Khatiguda market on Saturday for their alleged involvement in a cockfight betting. The cops had also picked up Gobardhan’s wife and his daughter from their house but released them later.

While the police reportedly released Kamlu on Sunday, later the Additional SP of Nabarangpur admitted that Gobardhan died in police custody.
