Muslim Woman Threatens Self-Immolation Over Husband's Third Marriage

Jajpur: Police today registered a case against one Imran Khan of Panikoili area in the district following a complaint by a woman who claims to be his legally wedded second wife. Seeking action against her husband, victim Sabina alleged that Imran has married another woman without divorcing her officially.

Reportedly, Sabina met Jajpur SP Charan Singh Meena today and apprised him about the matter alleging that her husband Imran Khan married another woman without parting ways legally. Sabina also threatened to self-immolate in front of SP office if justice is denied to her.

The woman said that she had earlier gone to Korei Police station to lodge a complaint against Khan, but the cops did not pay any heed to her. However, police registered a case today under sections 41, 294, 323, 506, 494 and 34 of IPC after OTV highlighted the plight of the woman on Monday.

"He (Imran Khan) claims of having given me triple talaq in his mind and through the local sarpanch. However, officially he has not divorced me. How will I and my daughter survive?," said Sabina while speaking to OTV.

"I want justice. He should pay me the maintenance money. I will self-immolate in front of the SP's office if he is not arrested," she threatened.

The woman further alleged that her in-laws had been torturing her physically and even plotted to kill her for dowry.

"A case has been registered against the accused based on the victim's complaint. The case is under investigation. I will supervise the case personally and talk to the local IIC. Action will be taken against the accused as per law," informed Jajpur SDPO Chinmay Mohanty.

Meanwhile, police arrested Sabina's father-in-law Lal Khan and brother-in-law Muzafir Khan.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
