Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a worker lost his life due to mudslide while installing concrete well rings inside a well on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Alatuma village of Kamakshya Nagar area in the district.

Four other workers, who were also installing the well rings, escaped death by a whisker.

As per reports, the five labourers were busy installing the concrete rings in the well when mudslide occurred and they all got trapped in the mud. After a massive rescue operation of five hours, four of the labourers were rescued safely.

The fifth labourer trapped in the mud was pulled out after five hours. However, he had already died by the time. He has been identified as Dhulia Mallick.

“We were engaged in well construction and installing the concrete rings inside it. The water dried in the base while installing the rings for which we again dug the base. Suddenly, the mudslide occurred and we all got trapped in it,” said a worker.

“Dhulia was at the lower base and all others were in upper level. While we luckily escaped the death, Dhulia could not,” he added.
