Bhubaneswar: In the near future, Bhubaneswar will get air connectivity with more international airports, said Baruda Venkateswara Rao who took charge as the new Director of Biju Patnaik International (BPI) Airport in the capital city on Tuesday.

In an exclusive interview with OTV, Rao said, “It feels happy to be back at BPIA after 15 long years. No doubt, with infrastructure development taking place at the airport and its surroundings, socio-economic development will take place. There is no crunch of funds. Just that we need the support of the State government. We are ready to expand the airport by any means.”

“My main objective is to boost international connectivity and I will coordinate with respective airline heads to bring in more flights to facilitate connectivity with more countries,” opined Rao.

Notably, Rao had earlier served as an official of the Bhubaneswar Airport for nine years (1996-2004) which he cites will help him work in tandem with former colleagues to take BPIA to newer heights.

“I am fully confident that with the help of officials and engineers, we will expedite on-progress and future developmental works and complete them within the scheduled time. We can do it,” expressed Rao.

Rao replaced Suresh Hota after the latter took voluntary retirement from the service.
