Bhubaneswar: The wait is finally over as the southwest monsoon is expected to hit Odisha in the next 24 hours, informed director of Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas today.

Biswas further informed that the cyclonic circulation over east central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure system and it has strengthened the monsoon onset over Odisha coast.

The Met department has further issued heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Odisha for the next three days.

Biswas informed that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Khurda and Jagatsinghpur in the next 24 hours.

Similarly, heavy rain is also likely in the districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajpati, Koraput, Cuttack and Nayagarh.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall will also occur at several places in Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kandhamal. Dhenkanal and Angul in the next 48 hours. Several parts of Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur and Koraput will also experience rainfall in 72 hours.
