Bhubaneswar: After playing hide and seek for almost a week, the southwest monsoon is likely to hit Odisha within seven days, predicted India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

The latest forecast comes in the backdrop of monsoon making onset over Kerala coast, after a delay of six days from its usual onset. As the conditions were not favourable for its progress, there was a delay in monsoon onset in Kerala, said IMD.

IMD’s regional centre here in Bhubaneswar informed that southern parts in Odisha will experience pre-monsoon rain from June 13.

“Usually, the monsoon in Odisha arrives after eight to nine days after its onset in Kerala. So far, no forecast has been made regarding its onset in Odisha. However, we expect that it will take another week’s time for the monsoon to arrive in Odisha,” said meteorologist Sashikant.

Sashikant further informed that there has been a significant drop in the temperature in Odisha in the past couple of days. Only Sonepur recorded a highest temperature above 40 degree Celsius today.
