Bhubaneswar: A joint team of personnel from security agencies and Fire Services today undertook mock drill at a shopping mall in Bhubaneswar to gauge its preparedness in case of a terror attack.

As per reports, a mock bomb blast was carried out at the Esplanade One Mall this morning following which personnel of Special Task Force, Anti Terrorist Squad, NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services entered the mall one by one to nab two dummy terrorists in skull caps. A team of bomb disposal squad was also seen defusing another bomb kept in a cardboard packet in the mall.

This apart, a team of Fire Services personnel showcased their skills in rescue operation. Drones were also used to check the place thoroughly.

“Such exercise finds out how emotionally charged rescuers react to the incident and provide safety and relief to victims. Better coordination between different agencies could be gauged as well with this exercise in a controlled environment,” said an NDRF official.

This mock drill was carried out for the second time at the shopping mall in the city.

Partha Pradymuna Nayak, centre director, Esplanade shopping mall said, “This exercise makes us ready for any eventuality. This is the second time such mock drill is being held here.”
