Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister and the BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday asked the members of his party's students wing to be alert against rumours and fake news on social media while stating that to ensure social harmony, misinformation needs to be wiped out from the society.

"Social media is flooded with misinformation. Many a time, the information comes on social media and even on mainstream media that is not true. So, you have to fight against the misinformation. It is now the greatest enemy to social harmony. If we won't remain alert, it will destroy our society and our unique identity," said Patnaik during BJD's state executive meeting.

The BJD chief, who attended the meeting through video conference, called upon the students' wing to fight the fake news and said, "It's your duty to fight against the misinformation and bring the truth before people."

The BJD chief recently said that right from Sarpanchs to Chairmen at Block levels, Zilla Parishad Presidents, MLAs, Ministers including the Chief Minister and government officials- from entry-level to the State Chief Secretary- will make their property details public.

“Corruption is the biggest enemy of development and the Odisha government is giving adequate focus on transparency. All such efforts will go in vain if we do not give emphasis on transparency and eliminate corruption," said the BJD supremo adding that action has been taken against 91 corrupt officials in the State in the past one year.
