Cuttack: A scooter owner under Barang Police Limits was fined a hefty Rs 26,000 on Tuesday after a joint team of Transport Department officials and Police apprehend the vehicle while it was being driven by a minor that too without a helmet.

As per reports, RTO officials were undertaking a vehicle checking drive in front of Barang Police Station when they apprehended a minor boy driving a scooter registered under the name of Kailash Rout from Gothapur village under Barang Police limits.

Then the officials issued a challan to Kailash with a total fine of Rs 26,000. While a fine of Rs 1,000 was levied for driving a two-wheeler without helmet and a penalty of Rs 25,000 was charged as the vehicle was being driven by a minor.

The scooter has been impounded by the traffic officials at Barang Police Station. Sources said that it can only be released after the fine is deposited with the RTO.

Recently, a fine of similar amount was imposed on a bike owner in Pallahara area of Angul district after a minor was caught driving the vehicle without helmet.
