Puri: A minor boy undergoing surgery was allegedly thrashed by a doctor inside the operation theatre at Puri district headquarters hospital. As per the allegations levelled by the father of the victim, the accused doctor, PK Jena, thrashed the boy for crying inside the operation theatre.

The boy was admitted at the hospital for a surgery by his father Arjun Mansingh. However, he cried after being administered an injection, following which Jena lost his cool and thrashed the boy leaving him grievously injured.

"My son was mercilessly thrashed by the doctor inside the operation theatre. We came to know about it after the surgery was over," Mansingh said.

The father of the boy also alleged that the doctor took Rs 700 bribe for conducting the surgery. However, Jena refuted the allegations and said "I am a doctor, how can I assault my patient. The charges are absolutely baseless."

Following the incident, protests erupted in the locality. Later, Kumbharpada Police Station in-charge reached the spot and launched an investigation. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Ramachandra Rout has assured action against the accused in the case.

"The father of the boy informed me that the doctor assaulted the kid. We will take action after investigation," Rout said.
