Keonjhar/Balasore: A minor boy drowned and two other youths were rescued while being swept away by water at two different places of the State during sailing miniature boats as part of the celebrations of Kartika Purnima today.

In the first incident, the nine-year-old kid, Subham Rout, drowned while sailing miniature boat in Kusei river at Nuagarh village under Anandapur block of Keonjhar district early morning.

Although Subham was rescued and rushed to the Anandapur Sub-Divisional Hospital, he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

On the other hand, two youths were reportedly rescued, after being swept away in sea current while taking selfie during 'Boita Bandana' celebrations at Chandipur beach in Balasore district, by a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Later the two victims were rushed to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment and their condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, people in Odisha floated miniature boats in ponds, rivers and other water bodies to celebrate ‘Boita Bandana’ as part of the rituals of Kartika Purnima.
