Berhampur: Tension ran high at a private hospital near Gate Bazar in Berhampur following the death of a 13-year-old boy on Friday allegedly due to medical negligence. Family members of the deceased Nagraj Sethi of Gate Bazar area alleged that the boy died after he was administered a wrong injection by the doctor at the hospital.

Reportedly, Nagraj was admitted to the City Hospital on August 22 after he developed a swelling on his throat. Later, he was shifted to Amit Hospital as his condition deteriorated further.

The family members claimed that after seven days of treatment at the hospital the boy was gradually recovering and was able to move around. However, suddenly he fell sick again and died after the doctor administered him an injection during treatment yesterday, the boy's family alleged.

Police rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident and started an investigation. "We initiated an investigation after receiving allegation of medical negligence by staff and doctors of Amit Hospital which led to the death of the boy. We will interrogate the doctors who were treating him. Besides, we will take the help of the experts," informed Berhampur Superintendent of Police, Pinak Mishra.
