Bhubaneswar: At a time when everyone is eagerly waiting for the southwest monsoon, there seems to be no respite from the heat and humid conditions in the meantime. To add to the woes, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued heat wave warning for next three days in Odisha.

HR Biswas, director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed that the heat wave warning has been issued for 10 districts including Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Nuapada.

“Heat wave conditions will prevail in 10 districts for the next three days till June 13,” said Biswas.

Only after June 13, there is possibility of an increase in rainfall activity. However, till then parts of north interior Odisha will experience heat wave conditions. The temperature in other parts of the State will be two to three degrees Celsius above normal.

As southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala late this year, its onset in Odisha is expected to get delayed by a week.

“The monsoon has advanced in some parts of Mizoram and Manipur and there are no chances of its advancement in the next few days owing to disturbances in the Arabian Sea,” Biswas added.

Senior meteorologists further informed that the conditions of monsoon onset in Odisha are not favourable for the next few days.
