Bhubaneswar: As per the earlier forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many places in Odisha witnessed a dip in the mercury with Sonepur emerging the coldest with temperature falling below 15 degree Celsius.

The district recorded 11.8 degree Celsius while Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 20.6 and 19 degree Celsius respectively. Temperature in five other towns in the State also came below 15 degree Celsius.  While Angul reported 11.6 Degree Celsius, Daringbadi stood at 14.0 degree C. The minimum temperature in Jharsuguda  and Keonjhar was 14.1 degree C and 15.0 Degree Celsius respectively in the last 24 hours.

The weather department attributed the fall in mercury level to the flow of northerly and north-westerly cold and dry winds towards the State. Under its impact, similar cold condition is expected to prevail for next two-three days, the Met department stated in a tweet.

The day temperature in the districts of north Odisha is likely to fall two to three degree Celsius below normal while it is three to four degree C in the pockets of south Odisha, the weather bureau added.
